Define Your Skin Type

Determine your skin type. (Notice we said, "determine," not "pick," because if you pick, it will only makes things worse.) Don't think that's funny? Okay then, discover some of the things you can do to improve and maintain a healthy complexion (and your sense of humor).

Healthy Skin

Clear, good tint with no redness or blemishes
Balanced moisture including oil and water
Fine texture with small or invisible pores
Supple and resilient – it springs back if you
pinch it away from the bones of the face – it's elastic
Our Skin Care Program for Healthy Skin

Dry Skin

Dull with no color
Too little oil production in the skin
Tight, drawn, flaky skin surface
Rough texture with very few or no shiny areas
Chapped when extremely dry
Our Skin Care Program for Dry Skin

Oily Skin

Excess oil production
Shiny, because of oil spreading out constantly
Sticky to touch
Large pores and thick texture
Leaves oil on thin tissue even 30 minutes after washing
Prone to pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads
Simply having blemishes does not mean you have oily skin
Our Skin Care Program for Oily Skin

Combination Skin

Either dry/oily or normal/oily
"T zone" is usually oily (across the forehead, down the nose, and the chin)
Large pores in the T zone, which are more susceptible to blemishes
More people have combination skin than any other type

Sensitive Skin

Blotchy, red tone
Occurs with any skin type, any age
Extremely sensitive to exposure – sun, wind, and cold
Extremely sensitive to harsh products – soaps, cleansers, astringents
Irritated – red with stinging or heated sensation
More susceptible to breakouts and blemishes, easily chaps

Skin cells regenerate about every 28 days
As old cells die and shed, new ones take their place
In a healthy person, this renewal process stays in balance
With too much oil or too little oil/moisture the skin renewal process gets derailed
Eat a balanced diet with adequate nutrition
Inheriting good genes goes some of the way toward healthy skin

Exercise regularly
Drink plenty of water
Protect from harsh elements – sun, salt, and pollution

Sebaceous glands secrete oil to lubricate skin
Oiliness vs dryness determines skin type
Healthy skin needs adequate oil as well as enough moisture
